Yayasan Pendidikan Harapan Papua (YPHP) is a non-profit organization bringing education and healthcare to remote villages in Papua's interior mountainous region, among the most underdeveloped on the planet. Untouched by development, the schools we establish in these villages are often the first form of formal education.
Without a school in their village, children spend their days helping to provides for their families. Girls usually accompany their mothers to harvest potatoes and pick vagetables, while boys look for firewood to cook a family meal, as pictured in the photo above. As aresult, students never get the chance to dream; even if they do, they are not equipped to achieve those aspirations.
When Sekolah Lentera Harapan opens, highly qualified teachers with a calling and heart to serve in interior Papua move into the village and teach wholehearthedly. Within a few months of learning, local Papuan students transition from understanding numbers one to three to undertaking basic mathematics. They have also quickly grasped learning a new language, Bahasa Indonesia, enabling them to read and write. Education gives Papuan parents and children hope for a better future.
YPHP has opened nine shcool in interior Papua, with 70 full-time teachers and 1,180 students. However, there are still hundreds of villages in interior Papua without access to education and healthcare. So let's join hand and reach more village
