At Sekolah Lentera Harapan, we believe “not all classrooms have four walls.” Learning takes place in the heart - it is the willingness to discover new facts and knowledge. For example, in science class, teachers discuss living vs. non-living things. Teachers then assign students homework to observe and draw a living thing of their choice. Later that afternoon, this teacher came across this student who is tracing a dog’s silhouette. He thought that tracing the silhouette would give him a more accurate picture. What a creative mind!
Children in interior Papua are not distracted by the outside world; they do not have any gadget or media that takes up their time. Hence they are eager to learn and takes on classes and assignments wholeheartedly. Their eagerness to learn overcomes the challenges they have.
The photo above is taken in the village of Mokndoma in April 2020. A beautiful candid photo is showing the inventiveness of children in interior Papua. May they always have the joy and willingness to discover new things.
